Counselling is a supportive process where you talk with a trained professional in a safe, confidential space. It helps you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, gain new perspectives, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. Counselling can support you through anything from everyday stress to deeper emotional or relational concerns.
- 02
Counselling provides a safe, non-judgmental space to explore difficult emotions, thoughts, or life situations. It helps individuals develop healthy coping strategies, gain clarity, and make positive changes. Regular counselling can improve mental health, relationships, and overall quality of life.

In-person sessions take place at our practice in a private, comfortable setting. Online sessions are conducted via secure video platforms, offering flexibility and convenience - especially if you have a busy schedule, live far away, or prefer support from your own space. Both options provide the same level of care and confidentiality; the choice comes down to your personal preference.

A Specialist Wellness Counsellor is registered with the ASCHP and provides supportive, non-clinical counselling to promote emotional and mental well-being. Unlike HPCSA-registered professionals who focus on diagnosis and treatment, ASCHP counsellors offer preventative care, helping clients navigate life challenges and build resilience.

A social worker is a trained professional who provides support and resources to individuals, families, and communities to improve their well-being. They often assist with practical challenges such as housing, abuse, family conflict, and mental health concerns, and may work in schools, hospitals, NGOs, or private practice. Many social workers are also trained to offer counselling.

It’s completely valid to feel hesitant if past experiences weren’t helpful. Sometimes, it takes finding the right counsellor, approach, or even timing for therapy to truly resonate. We’re here to meet you where you are—with compassion, no pressure, and an approach tailored to your unique needs. Every experience is different, and many people find success in therapy after giving it another try.

Start by listening without judgment and expressing genuine concern for their well-being. Avoid pushing—focus instead on offering support and understanding. Share how counselling could help, offer to assist with booking or even accompany them to their first session (if appropriate). Remind them that seeking help is a courageous and positive step, not a weakness.

If you are in immediate danger or facing a mental health emergency, please contact emergency services or go to the nearest hospital. For non-life-threatening crises, you can reach out to a mental health helpline or your counsellor for guidance and support.
- 09
Encourage them gently by expressing your concern and support. Share how counselling has helped others and reassure them that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Offer to help with finding a counsellor or attending the first session together if appropriate.

Sessions 60 minutes long. Frequency can vary depending on individual needs — some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others may attend bi-weekly or monthly. Your counsellor will help determine a schedule that works best for you.

All sessions are confidential and your privacy is protected. Information shared in counselling is not disclosed without your written consent, except in rare cases where there is a legal or ethical duty to report (such as risk of harm). You’ll be informed of these limits and asked to give consent before starting therapy.

"Counselling at NaidooWellness has really helped me in my mental health journey. Their style of counselling really resonated with me unlike the other places I have been too. Using the online platform was also convenient and made it easier to attend sessions."
